Not only Rappers like to name their songs after famous footballers, this Afrobeats singer from Nigeria does too!
Niniola is a singer from Nigeria, who first gained wider attention when she participated in the music talent reality TV show MTN Project Fame West Africa and finished in third place. In 2014, she had her first breakthrough with the single Ibadi, only to hit it big in 2017 with Maradona, a song about a Casanova (you could say player) she can’t keep her hands off.
The sound, which is located somewhere between Afrobeats, Afrohouse and Afropop is created by Sarz, one of the highly capable Nigerian producers getting more and more international recognition. The vibe is laidback and club-ready at the same time (check out Niniola’s slick dance moves). Listening to the song for the first time, it felt unusual in the best way possible and I will be on the lookout for Niniola’s (and Sarz’s) next releases.
